This video shows Nathan Phillips pounding his
drum centimeters from student Nick Sandmann
It
turns out that Nick Sandmann, the young man at the
center of the controversy, was actually attempting
to "diffuse the situation" by his stance in front of
the Native American man. He
wrote about the incident:
The protestor everyone has seen in the video began playing his
drum as he waded into the crowd, which parted for
him. I did not see anyone try to block his path.
He locked eyes with me and approached
me, coming within inches of my face. He played his
drum the entire time he was in my face.
I never interacted with this protestor. I did not speak to
him. I did not make any hand gestures or other
aggressive moves.
To be honest, I was startled and confused as to why he had
approached me. We had already been yelled at by
another group of protestors, and when the second
group approached I was worried that a situation was
getting out of control where adults were attempting
to provoke teenagers.
I believed that by remaining motionless and calm, I was
helping to diffuse the situation. I realized
everyone had cameras and that perhaps a group of
adults was trying to provoke a group of teenagers
into a larger conflict. I said a silent prayer that
the situation would not get out of hand.

Native American protestor
Statement
of Nick Sandmann,
Covington Catholic High School Junior, Regarding
Incident at the Lincoln Memorial
Reason video
But
the rest of the video—nearly two hours of
additional footage showing what happened before and
after the encounter—adds important context that
strongly contradicts the media's narrative.
Far
from engaging in racially motivated harassment, the
group of mostly white, MAGA-hat-wearing male
teenagers remained relatively calm and restrained
despite being subjected to incessant racist,
homophobic, and bigoted verbal abuse by members of
the bizarre religious sect Black Hebrew Israelites,
who were lurking nearby.
The
BHI has existed since the late 19th century, and is
best describes as a black nationalist cult movement;
its
members believe they are descendants of the ancient
Israelites, and often express condemnation of white
people, Christians, and gays. DC-area Black Hebrews
are known to spout particularly vile
bigotry. …
It
bears repeating that Phillips approached him
(Nick
Sandmann, Covington Catholic High School Junior),
not the other way around.
And
that's all there is to it. Phillips walked away
after several minutes, the Black Hebrew Israelites
continued to insult the crowd, and nothing else
happened.
You
can judge for yourself. Here
is video footage of the full incident,
from the perspective of the black nationalists.
Phillips enters the picture around the 1:12 mark,
but if you skip to that part, you miss an hour of
the Black Hebrew Israelites hurling obscenities at
the students. They call them crackers, faggots, and
pedophiles.
At
the 1:20 mark (which comes after the Phillips
incident) they call one of the few black students
the n-word and tell him that his friends are going
to murder him and steal his organs.
At
the 1:25 mark, they complain that "you give faggots
rights," which prompted booing from the students.
Throughout the video they threaten the kids with
violence, and attempt to goad them into attacking
first.
The
students resisted these taunts admirably: They
laughed at the hecklers, and they perform a few of
their school's sports cheers.
It
was at this moment that Phillips, who had attended a
nearby peace protest led by indigenous peoples,
decided to intervene.
He
would later
tell The Detroit Free Press that
the teenagers "were in the process of attacking
these four black individuals" and he decided to
attempt to de-escalate the situation.
He
seems profoundly mistaken: The video footage taken
by the black nationalists shows no evidence the
white teenagers had any intention of attacking.
Nevertheless, Phillips characterized the kids as
"beasts" and the hate-group members as "their prey":

Turns out the real story is that Nathan Phillips,
Native American elder, is a bold faced liar. This is
what he was saying:
“There was that moment when I realized
I’ve put myself between beast and prey”
“These young men were beastly and these
old black individuals was their prey, and I stood in
between them and so they needed their pounds of
flesh and they were looking at me for that.”
“It was getting ugly, and I was
thinking: ‘I’ve got to find myself an exit out of
this situation and finish my song at the Lincoln
Memorial,’”
Phillips told the paper. “I started
going that way, and that guy in the hat stood in my
way, and we were at an impasse. He just blocked my
way and wouldn’t allow me to retreat.”
He also said the kids were chanting
“build the wall” and yelling racial slurs.
Detroit Free Press
Meanwhile, in real life, the group “Black Hebrew
Israelites”, ironically listed as a “hate group” by
the SPLC, were harassing the Covington students,
shouting slurs at them ranging from
“cracker” to
“children of incest”,
“future school shooters”,
gay
slurs, and started harassing one of students who was
black saying the white kids were going to “steal his
organs”.
In
response to all this the Covington kids started
chanting school cheers to drown out their nonsense.
All
of this has been caught on video posted by,
ironically, the Black Hebrew Israelites.
It
was at this point that Nathan Phillips walked into
the crowd of boys, walked right up to the one kid
minding his own business and began beating his drum
closer and closer to his face.
Meanwhile other members of his group were yelling at
the kids to “go back to Europe”.
What
did the kids do? Nothing. They stood there in
bewilderment. Some danced to the drum. Some, being
silly, made some tomahawk chops.
Somehow, with all the dozens and dozens of people
filming, not a single person caught a Covington
Catholic High School kid chanting “build the wall”
or hurling racial epithets. Because it didn’t
happen.
Nathan Phillips is a liar trying to defame a bunch
of high school kids. He ran to the media to try and
frame a narrative of racism, and he has been caught
out.
All
of his claims are in direct contrast to the video
recordings he initially tried to lean on, let alone
the statement from the kids themselves and other
witnesses.
I
hope that all of you who immediately condemned these
kids as racist deviants because the falsely reported
behavior conformed to your biases of Trump
supporters and MAGA hats apologize now.
FirstFiveEighth
You
can be as flippant as you want but the questions are
pretty pertinent to the issue. You swallowed Nathan
Phillips’ account of the events hook, line, and
sinker with no questions asked.
But
Phillips apparently didn’t consider that more than
his personal cameraman were filming the event, let
alone doing a multi-hour livestream, and all of the
film directly contradicts all of Phillips’ claims:
There is no evidence that the kids sought out and
surrounded Phillips and other Indigenous marchers.
There is video evidence to the contrary, that
Phillips approached and got in the kids’ faces.
There is no evidence of the kids shouting racial
slurs or chanting “build the wall”.
There is video evidence of both the Black Hebrew
Israelites and the Indigenous People’s Marchers
shouting racial slurs at the kids.
There is no evidence that the smiling kid
confronted, blocked, or restricted Phillips’
movement.
There is video evidence that Phillips sought out
this kid and got directly in his face. There is
video evidence that the kid just stood there. There
is video evidence that no one impeded Phillips’
movement.
All
of Phillips’ claims are directly contradicted by
video taken by the other harassers, the BHI group.
What then, are you accusing these kids of? Being
white? If all you have to hang you hat on is a few
silly tomahawks by about two kids, then you are
desperately grasping at straws. It’s sad to see
people still pedaling this narrative.
Video
The first 5 or so seconds of video contains annoying blocking
ad.
At 1:25 someone asks “Anyone know what’s going on here?”
And at 1:35, one of the natives starts outright insulting the
boys.
At 2:14, the evil little smirk boy, whom many want harmed and
ruined, tells one of his own to kinda calm down, So
that the situation doesn’t escalate into something
more.
At 2:25, the boys start leaving.
At 4:35-46 Black African American accuse the students of
being homosexuals.
Some say that Philipps was trying to spread peace
because he sensed discord between the black
Isrealites and the Covington boys.
But how is stepping into a group of boys and going up to one
spreading peace? Why would I bang a drum and chant
into a boy’s face for several minutes to spread
peace? And why did one of the Natives start
screaming at the boys because of their white skin?
SO peaceful.
Anti-Trump media touts fake news to
whip up mob against pro-life kids.
They should be ashamed
Many of the commentators who joined the initial pile-on have
begun to retract their statements in view of the
evidence.
Jake Tapper of CNN tweeted out the rebuttal column by
Reason, Scott Adams of Dilbert issued
an unqualified apology to the boys and those who
were misled by his initial condemnations, and
conservatives and pro-lifers who had initially
rushed to join those expressing outrage indicated
their regret for doing so.
But
Mr. Phillips has
admitted to the Washington Post
that he had no intention of retreating or
going around the boy. For him, the boy represented
500 years of injustice to his people.
But
Phillips also said he saw more than a teenage boy in
front of him. He saw a long history of white
oppression of Native Americans.
“Why I should go around him?”
he asked. “I’m just thinking of 500 years of
genocide in this country, what your people have
done. You don’t even see me as a human being.”
Here
is relevant a section of Nick’s public statement:
Because we were being loudly attacked
and taunted in public, a student in our
group asked one of our teacher
chaperones for permission to begin our
school spirit chants to counter the
hateful things that were being shouted
at our group.
The chants are commonly used at sporting
events. They are all positive in nature
and sound like what you would hear at
any high school.
Our chaperone gave us permission to use
our school chants. We would not have
done that without obtaining permission
from the adults in charge of our group.
At no time did I hear any student chant
anything other than the school spirit
chants. I did not witness or hear any
students chant “build that wall” or
anything hateful or racist at any time.
Assertions
to the contrary are simply false. Our
chants were loud because we wanted to
drown out the hateful comments that were
being shouted at us by the protestors.
After a few minutes of chanting, the
Native American protestors, who I hadn’t
previously noticed, approached our
group.
The
Native American protestors had drums and
were accompanied by at least one person
with a camera.
The protestor everyone has seen in the
video began playing his drum as he waded
into the crowd, which parted for him.
I did not see anyone try to block his
path. He locked eyes with me and
approached me, coming within inches of
my face. He played his drum the entire
time he was in my face.
I never interacted with this protestor.
I did not speak to him. I did not make
any hand gestures or other aggressive
moves.
To be honest, I was startled and
confused as to why he had approached me.
We had already been yelled at by another
group of protestors, and when the second
group approached I was worried that a
situation was getting out of control
where adults were attempting to provoke
teenagers.
I believed that by remaining motionless
and calm, I was helping to diffuse the
situation.
I realized everyone had cameras and that
perhaps a group of adults was trying to
provoke a group of teenagers into a

that the situation would not get out of
hand.
FirstFiveEighth
What
the heck are you talking about? The dude singled the
kid out and beat a drum in his face. What does
“defer” mean?
Let’s review this again. “Guys, this situation is
dangerous. I am going to deescalate it. Let’s go
over there, I will beat a drum and chant directly in
a kids face and the rest of you hurl racial insults
at them and tell them to get off our stolen land.
Got it? Let’s go!”
Nathan Phillips wasn’t trying to defuse the
situation, he was trying to incite something. In his
own words, he says the kids were harassing the black
men and describes them as “beasts”.
Then
he says the kid he singled out was not an innocent
kid but 500yrs of white oppression. In what fantasy
land is he being an adult here?
Let’s not forget that it was Nathan Phillips’
buddies who posted an edited video of him beating a
drum in a kids face. Let’s not forget that it was
Nathan Phillips who ran to the media, claimed he was
surrounded and harassed by white kids hurling racist
insults. What a great effort at diffusing a
situation there.
