Timing of the Publication of Third Secret
There has been some confusion over the
years concerning this third secret. The Holy Father was never
under any obligation to reveal it. Whether or not to do that and
when to do that were always completely under his own discretion.
For those who are unfamiliar with the
hierarchical aspects of the Catholic Church it might help them to
know that the visionary
Sister Lucia
has also confirmed that it was always the Pope's
prerogative on how to proceed..
“ …
Sister
Lucia wrote on the outside envelope that it could be opened only
after 1960, either by the Patriarch of Lisbon or the Bishop of
Leiria. Archbishop Bertone therefore asked: “Why only after 1960?
Was it Our Lady who fixed that date?” Sister Lucia replied: “It was
not Our Lady. I fixed the date because I had the intuition that
before 1960 it would not be understood, but that only later would it
be understood. Now it can be better understood. I wrote down what I
saw; however it was not for me to interpret it, but for the Pope.”
Content of Third Secret
Secondly, we can know for certain that the
content of this third secret is exactly as quoted
here. Over the years
as people awaited the revelation of this secret many people had made
idle speculation as to its content. Some had even written whole books
about it. And yet, never has there been more than three living people,
not counting Sister Lucia, who actually knew what it said. The
Holy Father kept it a closely guarded secret, probably thinking that it
might cause unwarranted fear or some other adverse reaction if it had
been made known under the wrong circumstances.
One individual had witnessed Cardinal Ratzinger
reading it. He stated that he was able to observe that the entire
contents of the Third Secret had been printed on one side of one page.
Other than that, nothing else was known publicly, but unfortunately idle
minds like to speculate. Some had become understandably
frustrated, but unfortunately also impatient with the sins of some
members of the clergy.
God always gives us what we need, but not always
what we want. The defined teachings of the Church were always
protected from error, but some - perhaps, since we are all sinners I
should say not "some" but rather all of us at some time or another -
were not faithfully living or faithfully sharing that uncorrupted
message of the Gospel with others. So, these idle minds had
speculated again and again over the years that God had forcefully
reprimanded and rebuked all such sinners in the message of the Third
Secret. When they heard that the Third Secret was just as it is
printed here, they could not accept that all their idle speculation
could have been wrong. And so, they claimed that they knew that it was
something different, even though the actual number of people who had
read the secret was an extremely small number of people.
Both His Holiness John Paul II, and now Pope
Benedict XVI, the two people besides the deceased Popes who had actually
read the secret have verified the contents of the above letter. To
question their authenticity in this matter is completely without merit.
“… Pope emeritus Benedict XVI … confirms decisively
that ‘the publication of the Third Secret of Fatima is complete,’”
the
Vatican statement said.

The Consecration was Completed in 1984
In one sense the consecration to Mary's
Immaculate Heart is ongoing as we are called to spread the message so
that each of us can consecrate ourselves to Jesus through Mary's
Immaculate Heart each day. As for the consecration that Mary asked
of the Pope and all those Bishops in union with him, that was
accomplished on March 25, 1984. Father Robert Fox confirms the
following at his web siteRome has spoken. The Controversy on
the Collegial Consecration of Russia should end. Further controversy
divides. ...
In that Vatican Commentary the following paragraph should not be
missed:
“Sister Lucia personally confirmed
that this solemn and universal act of consecration corresponded to what
Our Lady wished (“Sim, esta feita, tal
como Nossa Senhora a pediu, desde o dia 25 de Marco de 1984”: Yes it has
been done just as Our Lady asked, on 25 March 1984”; Letter of November
1989). Hence any further discussion or request is without basis.”
